Welcome to Imscared. This is the first and last time You'll read this message. I suggest You to read this, because it's really important to do so. To work correctly, Imscared created a folder on your desktop just for you. Please, make sure the folderis always there. Imscared:A Pixelated Nightmare is a 2011 (with a 2016 remake) meta-horror indie game created by ivan zanotti due to its metafiction nature the game is noted for almost having no fourth wall with the interactions with the players computer being common. The story is very vague as it features a silent protagonist the player wanders in a dark and strange world tortured by a entity known simply as.
Imscared: A Pixelated Nightmare (also spelled as the more grammatically correct I'm Scared) is a short horror game produced by the independent game developer in October 2012. At first, this game appears to be an experimental project made by a novice at best. The novella-length introductory text includes a profuse apology for any errors or glitches that will inevitably appear in the game. The game's graphics themselves look like they were either drawn in Microsoft Paint or otherwise came right out of a.
During the first few minutes of gameplay, the player encounters half-hearted scares such as pixelated blood and some creepy music that doesn't even continue playing for more than a minute. And then the game abruptly crashes when a monster ambushes the player. Well, this game definitely lives up to its title of all right. But the game's introductory text also mentioned that outside files would appear once the game glitches occurred. The player opens these up, and the text file mentions something about entities becoming data. It seems that one of the game's glitches has taken a life of its own, and wants the player to continue the game. This game can be downloaded, if you dare to interact with the sentient game glitch yourself.
A sequel is in the makings as well, information about that as well as instructions to download the demo found. A was released on Steam on January 31, 2016.Because this is a relatively unknown horror game, expect many spoilers ahead.
Remember, players will have the best possible horror experience if they cannot anticipate any of the frightening events that await them. Steam: You've unlocked every single achievement. Congratulations!.: The caption to this page's image are some of White Face's first lines of dialogue to the player. And while White Face is creepy and seemingly finds pleasure in the player's terror, it also seems to enjoy simply watching the player's behavior and. /: All the in-game locations.
Everything is darkly lit and the unrelated, bizarrely constructed locations seem to blend into one another. At times the darkness turns blindingly bright for no apparent reason or morphs into a darkened. Available entryways can appear and vanish in an instant, and their destinations can be variable.: Once the player does get to look out some windows, it's pitch black most of the time just like every other area of the game. The darkness outside is also where White Face prefers to watch the player. The beginning room gets even darker in the door ending. This is no longer the case after deleting White Face, which suddenly makes the entire area sunny. Averted in the ending.
The entire sky becomes clear blue instead of the dark fog that covers the rest of the game. Considering the context, it doesn't make the place anywhere near happier looking.: If you're near the end of the Steam Version ( specifically, when you've placed the three valves and activated the device), a bunch of shortcuts to the various stages open up in the first stage's basement.: When compiled into chronological order, the game's introduction, as well as the text files the player receives outside the game can be considered this.: and lines about regret. In the Steam release, BURY HER and 'Six will do'. The former is the name of the game's channel and appears in title screens.
The latter is used to promote the game on Twitter and shows up exactly once in the game. A small one, but HER asks the player if they 'want this nightmare to end' - a reference to the game's 'Pixelated Nightmare' title.: White Face has become much more expressive in the Steam release, being able to close its eyes and mouth now.: Upon digging around looking to reset the game to play it from scratch, players can find a note from Ivan himself asking the player to not mess with the files, and to let White Face do it itself. He also thanks the player for playing.
Doubles as Heartwarming, because at the end of the note, Ivan writes 'You're great and so is your life! Don't commit suicide, okay?.: At one point the player finds a still-pulsating heart on the ground. The door ending involves deleting White Face's heart from your computer.: Constantly, by White Face. White Face: I love watching you.: White Face, also known as HER and Ivan Zanotti, is the mysterious entity that hijacks the game to torment the player.
'Six will do.' .: Inputting any of the other names before you know what they are will result in White Face asking if you're in a hurry, or will flat out tell you that you're not supposed to know yet.: HER dies like this after you shoot her six times. /: The final ending of the game requires the player to interact with the chair and noose in White Face's room. Presumably, the player must commit suicide in order to leave White Face's exitless domain. After this, the game will always immediately crash when opened. The final appearing text file also implies that White Face may still be dwelling within the player's computer despite the game file having crashed. The Steam release has an even more depressing ending.
Choosing to leave the game involves literally deleting White Face's heart from your computer, killing 'it' and lifting the curse from the game.: This game's introductory text encourages avid exploration of surroundings. Therefore players may spend a lot of time during their first-time playthroughs thoroughly searching for items in the most unlikely of places, or trying to access locked doors that will never open.: This game has false endings. Players will know that the game has ended for good once they encounter the ending that involves killing themselves. Expanded upon in the Steam version. After attempting to hang yourself, the ending gives you another name to input after collecting the heart: HER.: According to Attention.txt, 'A sound will predict its White Face's arrival.'
That happens to be static-like sounds that get louder as White Face approaches. It's the same for HER, except her chase theme starts with a pounding sound.
In the basement, this is first heard when the message 'BEHIND YOU' appears.: 'I'm scared' is exactly what players will say once they get into Imscared's more intensely scary parts. Additionally, the entity called 'White Face' is well, a white face. Additionally, HER is the spirit of a woman. /: Who are you playing as?
What made your character trapped in a weird room that has a bloody wardrobe and an exit that requires a still-pulsating heart to open anyway? No one ever knows.: Or more like 'streaks of blood' since White Face doesn't have feet.:. Inputting one of the achievement names ('Loneliness') in the text field results in this message. 'No you don't want to.' . At times, White Face quotes lines from the author's texts and writes their own files because they were the. /: The longer one plays this game, the more likely sinister files will show up on the computer and the more likely White Face will 'hijack' the computer.: White Face itself.
Whenever it touches the player, the game will automatically crash.: Why is the ghostly White Face pursuing and tormenting the player? Not even its allude to any possible answer. HER ultimate goal is to be put to rest.: White Face lets out child-like giggles whenever it does something behind the player's back.: White Face becomes one of the monsters in the Endless Mode DLC of.: Some of the keys or other items are so well hidden that it may take a frustrating amount of time to find them. In the Steam version, the labyrinth area, where at one point, you have to edit a certain file to unlock a gate.
You are given no indication that you could do this, aside from a very cryptic hint. Also from the Steam edition, the Market area.
Specifically, rebooting the PC in the office.: When things might be looking up, they aren't. Unsurprising, since this is a horror game.: White Face also goes by HER and Ivan Zanotti.: This quote isn't said outright, but White Face mentions how cold and dark its room is. In this pitch-dark and enclosed area there is a chair and noose in the background, and the skull-like White Face is slowly approaching the player who cannot move away. The player would certainly feel like they're about to die in this eerie situation.: White Face disables your run key in two separate rooms in the valve area.: An interesting example in the Steam version.
After getting the rope, you receive an achievement called 'Don't touch me'. If you're the type of person that checks achievements immediately after getting them, you'll note that there actually is no achievement by that name. Another fake achievement pops up moments later, giving you a hint on how to escape HER.: When referring to how 'entities' can become data files to possess our computers (also doubles as ). Attention.txt: There is a way to turn an entity into data. They have a life of their own, and it is difficult to distinguish them from normal computer files. In our actions of everyday, while we sit at the computer, this byte entity observes, and studies our every move and fear.: Even after beating the game and getting the final ending, 0.txt suggests that White Face may still be 'haunting' the player's computer.: Many of them are by White Face or otherwise any other loud and sudden sounds.
Taken when you try deleting White Face. Hope your volume is low when it happens.: Being too loud in the parlor?
You'll get a warning. Do it again, and you'll have to reopen the game.: The game has two of these, both of which are in HER's sections, of the Tricky variety and the Homogenous type.: Is White Face hiding in some of those? Did this game give my computer some sort of virus, or is it actually possessed by a malevolent spirit?.
When White Face says the things it does, is it truly for some unknown reason, or is it just the terrified player?. If you move right after you kill HER, you can briefly see that the player character looks nearly identical to White Face before the screen fades to black.: There's no item inventory, health bar, ability to save the game, nor anything really explaining why these crazy things are happening. We don't even see, hear, or learn anything about the player character.: Aside from the, there is only one real character- White Face itself.
There is also the HER, but White Face claims that she is. Other than that, there is possibly the unknown author of all those outside text files, who never makes an appearance, except it is revealed to be White Face yet again.: White Face/HER can take many different forms, but they are all recognizable by having a skeletal, maniacally smiling face.: The last text file in the demo version is reminiscent of this. 0.txt: It's alive. I'm really sorry. I didn't have any other choice. I don't want to die. From now on remember this: the sound predicts its arrival.
The player might feel this way after deleting White Face's heart, erasing it from the game forever.:. White Face, of course. Combined with a gaping mouth and few teeth. HER, which is basically White Face but worse, since she has a wide. Especially when she.: HER. White Face indicates that it is one of its many names.: The introductory text (and tutorial area in the 2016 release) advises the player to inspect and interact with everything in the game's surroundings.
This game offers nothing else to do until White Face make its debut.: The ever-present shadows and silence in this game serve to enhance players'. In the Market area, sounds such as breathing and items being knocking over are heard in the darkness until you turn the power back on.: During the game of 'tag' White Face will immediately crash the game if it touches the player. The player then has to start this section of the game all over again. The same thing happens when HER chases you twice: once through the parlor, and again in the Station.
There is a checkpoint in the parlor chase, though. /: While White Face is actually considered an entity, it can certainly be considered a 'ghost' due to its appearance and behavior. It seems to enjoy following and scaring the player, as well as doing freaky things to their computer outside the game.: White Face/HER is seen grinning and laughing most of the time.: If you kill White Face, then you'll be able to walk around through the various areas again, which are now free from any spooky elements.: White Face may or may not like to screw with the terrified player's head.: The unknown author of the outside text files was White Face all along.: White Face will be this if the static sounds get really loud during the game of 'tag.' Before that, it is how the game first 'ends'.
HER does this in the parlor chase, with bold red text. In the valve rooms, one sign (presumably left by White Face) announces 'I'm Right Behind You'.: Most of the blood stains in this game are bright red. Since this is a pixelated game.: White Face lets loose an absolutely HORRIFYING one in the door ending.: Apparently White Face is a glitch/virus/spirit who was sealed into Imscared's game file.: During the door ending, White Face chaotically flickers through each form it has taken through out the game as it pursues the player.: At one point, you are told to be quiet. Failing to heed that warning results in a quick image of a red face saying Get too loud again,.: The player character.: There's a painting that will become bloodstained when the player isn't looking. The first couple of portraits of HER in the Steam edition don't do anything, but later on you'll see a corridor of empty ones. After solving a puzzle, multiple HERS appear in them, reaching out for you.: White Face really enjoys watching the player.: HER has this design.: White Face constantly trails the player.: Who knew that a game with such low pixel count could produce so many screams and nightmares?.: This game mainly consists of the player finding items to further exploration, all while avoiding White Face catching them.: Also doubles as a, as White Face's otherwise out-of-place dialogue may also express the players' feelings while playing this game.
White Face: Help me. I don't want to die. I'm scared.: White Face says certain things indicating it to be this, such as 'I'm suffering' and 'I'm crying.' . HER may also be this, if her pleading to be put down is any indication. White Face.: White Face never does anything to actually harm the player per se besides terrifying them and crashing their game.
However, the panicked player may flinch back/scream whenever White Face flies by and touches them (Touch of Evil variant), or the player notices White Face silently watching them from a distance (Death Ray Vision variant). HER has the Touch of Evil variant as well. It's implied that she doesn't like doing this, but has to anyway. This is most evident when she begs you to kill her as she lunges towards you.: See above.: Ultimately, all White Face wants is to be friends with you, so if you choose to start the story over at the end instead of getting rid of it, it smiles warmly and says it loves you.: White Face goes through a particularly terrifying one in the door ending.: The player takes control of White Face itself when shooting HER. Reveals that White Face is essentially killing off HER due to her in a -like fashion to appease the player.: White Face's 'room' simply consists of White Face, a chair, and a noose. It's cold, dark, and seems to have no walls or boundaries.: White Face has this ability, and has another major form known as HER. 0.txt: It's alive.
It's changing again, like the last time. What form will it take? It's just a phantom of deception.: Players may do this upon seeing the game's horror scenes.: While White Face may not be a creepy white mask itself, it certainly looks like one.: The second ending.: Either some of the areas are this, or all the walls, floors, and ceilings are covered with blood or rust. One such location near the end of the game even has accompanying distorted moaning and gurgling sounds.: White Face does this very often.: White Face calls you out for wanting to erase it and end the game.
To say it doesn't take it well is an understatement.: And the exit door requires a heart for some reason.Congratulations. You made it to the end. Stay with me. I will always be here. Looking at you.
Hello everyone! This being my first guide, I decided to make it for a game I personally hold dear to my heart, since it's one of my favorite games ever, not only does it use smart puzzles, meta game and outsanding atmosphere the game is super cheap, making it your worth while.Well, let's get going with this game shall we? Now, some backstory, 'Imscared - a pixelated nightmare' is a full version of a game that was released 3 years ago, with the same name. Nowadays, we consider that game as a demo, however, despite the game beginning the same way,It differs highly from the original in its extended length and added contentRight, enough exposition, let's get into the nitty gritty.TUTORIALLet's start where the game starts us after we peruse the menu at our own pace.
The tutorial, of course. You'll get the tutorial every time you begin a new game, so that's something to take note of.After you take your sweet time and learn the game's controls it's time to get to puzzling. Directly after you continue down the linear path you will be led to a locked door and a dead end.If you make your way closer to the dead end, you will see that there is a small silver keyYou may go ahead and pick up the key with the 'e' button. After you've done said task, you should head back to the gate and unlock it with the now acquired 'Gate key'Once you unlock the door, you traverse the small stone path, which will lead you to a small red flower on the ground. You can't reach the flower normally, so you'll have to use the crouch button (Control) to reach it.Next job on the agenda, take note of the now darkened skies. Upon finishing your inspection, get yourself back to the very starting point, where the screen will freeze and you'll hear static noise, before being left with simply a dark screen. You are left with no choice but to reset the game by pressing escape twice. This concludes the tutorial level and we can now finally get into the game itself! Now that we have finally gotten to this point, it is time for us to get this show on the road, right? However, before we get into chapter 1, a few things: At this point, you've probably already noticed that the game has created a folder for itself on your desktop.
Do not delete this folder, since it's crucial to the game's mechanics and puzzles! Chapter 1, The ApartmentsNow, after you've exited the intense car park, you can finally get back on track. Once you exit the area, you'll find yourself in a large dark street. When you continue onwards, white face will fly by, letting out a loud startling giggle, as he proclaims how he 'Loves watching you.' Tread forward and tread freely, as white face won't be chasing us until the end of this chapter. Now is a good time to mention that at times, Imscared is going to open new tabs on your browser. Do not freak out, it's just part of the game.
This time, it'll open up the video called 'How to play Imscared' by the cryptic channel called 'Bury Her.' This channel is supposedly the developer's channel, but when you check the channel itself out, it only has the 'how to play Imscared' videos and a launch trailer.
I am mentioning this due to the fact that this channel will become important later on. Now, for the continuation: After you traverse the darkness, you'll be met with a locked gate. When you turn around, you'll spot a red line, if you follow the red line you'll be lead to a pillar with a dead body and a pool of the pool of blood there is a key. Pick it up and go through the gate to continue on your questThis next portion is better left untouched, since it's for the best you experience this part on your own, but as a general run-through of what you're supposed to do, basically after you walk through the door, it returns you to the other side of the chasm and a new walk-way has appeared. All you have to do is head back to the start and use the 'still-beating heart' on the door, allowing you to reach the ending of the original demo. This also marks the first fake ending of the game. After you've restarted the game, you will be returned into a white looking area with tons of fog. Continue onwards through it until you find a cupboard and a blank door.Your next job is to crouch and open the cupboard.
Inside are the 'Tongs.' Afterwards, head to the blank door and open it. At the end of a short hallway 'Key number 1' is located. After you've located door 1, marked in blood for your convenience, open it up. Inside you're going to head directly behind the large cupboard-like thing. Behind it the next key you'll need is located. With the use of the tongs grab the 'Key number 8'Now, directly after you've done this, when you head closer to door 8, you'll hear an odd noise, and the text 'I didn't mean to do that.' This will be useful in a little bit.
For now, go into room 8 and look into the window. This will show white face. This is important to note for later on.Your next job is to head back to room 4, which is now open, not requiring you to get 'Key number 4.' Inside of the room is a large dining table and a human-sized window. When you get close you'll notice white face is staring at you. When you open the window, he'll fly away.Next we've got to go to the end of the large balcony.
At the end you'll find a key, 'Key number 7.' Pick it up and head back inside towards room number 7 and unlock the door. Now, after you've entered room 7, head toward the balcony and walk towards the end of it. The other open-able balcony door leads you into room 3.
Inside of room 3 is a small key in a puddle of blood and a long bloody line leading you outside of the room. This line leads you to door number 6.
Use the newly picked up key and unlock it.After you've acquired 'Key number 2' from room 6, head towards room 2 and unlock it. Inside of room number 2 is a fleshy looking area similar to the hallway from the beginning. Go inside, grab the last key and head towards the final locked door. Now, before you directly head to the final door, take a small detour and head to the bloody line, go to the left wall and press 'e' a whole bunch of times, which will grant you the 'Knocking on Heaven's door' achievement. Now, without wishing to spoil anything as this area is specifically spoilleriffic, I'm going to say this: After you've followed the white arrows, the only thing left for you to do is press 'e' on the chair and noose, effectievly hanging yourself.
Doing so will grant you the 'Game Ended' achievement.Afterwards, you'll get a final screen telling you that one of white face's many names is 'HER.' You'll need this so write it down somewhere.Next, you're going to have to check your 'Imscared' folder, inside you'll notice a new document, titled '0.txt'.txt transcriptIt's alive. It's real. It's changing again, like the last timeWhat form will it take? It's justa phantom of deceptionAfter you've read it through, you'll want to start the game back up and it will return you to the beginning. Run over to the 'Still-beating heart,' pick it up, which will cause the game to crash and grant you the password screen yet again. Input the name 'HER' which will trigger 'Chapter 2' to begin. Alright, so you've made it this far? Well, things are about to get messy, since Chapter 2 consists of the bulk of the game, it also contains the two worst puzzles in the entire game. So strap yourselves in, we're going on a bumpy ride.Chapter 2, The HouseSo, for most people who have played lots of the game so far, you'll notice that instead of being located into a new room, we are put into the piano room, the menu that's been here for us the whole time, which is pretty nifty. Now, this is the first place in which running will result in your death.
As you can see in the first image, it has a sign, saying, 'Please be quiet' This translates to 'Don't run' If you do run however, you'll get a warning the first time, with the same face as the second image, with the text 'I told you to be quiet!' Alright, now, before I continue, I just want to mention, that this is probably the most creative of all puzzle ideas, since it is absolutely flooring how cool it is in my opinion, well, anyway, enough of that let's get going.Chapter 2, The GardenNow, once you've made your way down, get back into the swing of things with some running, since you're not inside of the house anymore you can now run freely! Take the time and head to the next portion, where you'll find the text box shown in image 2.Now, when we check this file out, it appears to be a map of sorts, with a youtube link on the very top of the.txt file. The youtube link leads us to a mysterious unlisted video, with the name 'Hidden Passage' Perhaps the most curious part about this video appears to be the descriptionSeek for the truthIf you kill me, just go where You shouldn't be. So, since the only other possible option is to check out this hidden passage, let's take a good look at, shall we?Now, the two images posted above, don't exactly specify very well where the passage is hidden, but if you're curious, go to the slide in the corner and follow the wall behind the slide, if you do so you'll find it easily.
Now if you do get into the passage, at the end instead of having the weird bed and ticket-booth-like structure, we only have a textbox saying 'You fell for it' Which has to indicate that this is a fake file, however, upon doing this you'll be rewarded with a new.html file called '.realone.html'When you open '.realone.html' you'll be met with a new map, and a whole list of tons and tons of codes, keep this page open, as it's important for later on. Now, chapter 2's part 3 is probably one of my least favorite portions of the game due to it having one of the worst puzzles yet.Chapter 2, The MetroNow, once we've managed to unlock our door, we use the labyrinth key we acquired a while back, and this will lead us. After that shocking revalation at the end of Chapter 2, The Metro, you'd think the game end, eh? Well, you're wrong, there's a whole other Chapter we're going to be playing in order to get completion!Chapter 3, The MarketThe first thing you'll notice when you re-boot the game up, is that the main-menu has changed, from the House, to White Face's room. Now, when we start the game up, we are directly heading to the heart room, as there is no other point of interest, when you pick it up, and it asks you for a name write the Developer's name.Once you've written the dev's name into the text-box this will start you up on a new area, the market! Now is a good time to check our Imscared folder, two new files have appeared, 1 folder, named 'Layer' and a new.txt file named 'To-do List'.txt Transcript, 'To-do List'This reality will never collide with the other one,but the events of one alters the twin and viceversaHave you already tried resetting? See what's on the other sideTomorrow's your turn, don't forget to- Check the freeze room- Send the mail- Send market orders with the computer- Fix the electric panelP.s.- If the PC gives problems, just turn it offIf you don't find the office's keys I'll send someone with them as soon as you send the letter.txt Transcript 'Layer'The curtain falls.I want to share a story with You.I've never had the chance to be a child, but when I was a child I always thought about awful things. One day my brother went to an appliance store, leaving me in the back seat of the car.
I looked at him entering the store, disappearing behind the sliding doors. Then my head drew a scenery: oh no, my brother got impaled by some sort of electrical appliance! There's blood everywhere! What should I do, now?The truth is, I never had a brother. As HER, to talk was not my thing.I just wanted to entertain You.
Once you've finally acquired the final achievement, you'll be able to beat the game, making it un-resetable.Chapter 3, The EndI won't list much of what you're supposed to do, besides the final puzzle. Here's what's up. You take the left and pick the flower, give it to white face, and reset the whole game, making you replay it from the very get-go, you pick the right way, open the door, and finally put an end to this nightmare. I won't explain what happens on either of these endings as they are so bitter-sweet, so I recommend you do this one on your own.If you pick the door, after the final events unfold, you'll be left with the final puzzle, all you have to do, is go to the new folder in your 'Imscared' and delete the 'heart.txt'. After you do that, you'll get the real ending of the game. While I don't claim to know everything about the game, I don't believe the description is implying the existance of a secret within a secret.
For starters the very fact that the video itself is nothing more than a red herring to the overall puzzle gives a good push in the right direction. It's possible there is a secret, but 'go where you shouldn't be' doesn't give any useful information. IMSCARED at it's very core is a game about going to places where the player shouldn't be, so saying something this vague doesn't exactly help things.
